It is more complicated than a simple rear camber issue. At first glance it appeared that my rear camber was off. The rear springs and shocks were replaced (wrong shocks were put in). The rear ride height and camber improved slightly. However, the rear alignment is still out of spec and the front is borderline, unloaded. The entire car rides ~30 mm too low according to both hand measurement and the ride height verses alignment tables using the measured alignment, i.e., both approaches indicate the car is low. All suspension components are stock. The rear shim will not correct the low ride height. WIS recommends one shim max and a 3mm shim is not going to correct for 1 degree of camber. A shim will do nothing for the front alignment or the ride height. It also won’t help the car handle the stated load rating without sagging resulting in excessive negative camber and ensuing tire cupping or failure. I had one blowout from this so it can happen.
It is my belief that the GVWR rating on the 9-5 is overstated. I can’t prove it, but a number of 9-5 owners who loaded the vehicle nearer to the GVWR numbers report similar suspension problems. I have personally observed loaded 9-5s sagging terribly. With just over 48K now (problem showed at about 35K, with a blowout), the whole situation is pretty dreadful and only made worse by the way Saab and the dealer have handled the matter.
