I will give it a go....IMO.
First...SAABs have become more mainstream to appeal to a broader range of consumers. Sense GM owns SAAB, many of the parts are shared.
1. SAABs are known for their solid construction, safety, utility, economy, durability, comfort and turbo charged performance,(passing power).
2. SAABs, if properly maintained, have no more issues than any other car...except their unique ignition system that may require a DI(direct ignition) cassette late in it's life. The issues are typically electrial.
3. I find parts for all cars to be expensive. Re' SAABs, there are a lot of non-dealer and aftermarket suppliers that give good discounts....and, a lot of independent mechanics that are really good. There is a strong support group for this brand.
4. I find them to be reliable. The engines are bullet proof and can go many 100's of 1,000's of miles. It depends on what model and year you are considering. You may want to ask this question again if you go further.
5. Premium is the recommended fuel for turbo charged engines...but SAABs have a unique engine management system that allows the use of lower octane at the expense of lower power. The 2.0/210 hp 9-3 with the manual trans will get around 30 mpg+ hwy...and mid 20's around towne. Check the 9-3 BB, search gas milage, you will get a lot of feed back and opinions. Also ask that group what they think.
6. Pick a model that you are strongly considering and go to that BB on this site. The posters are very helpful.
Good luck
