Thanks for the reply...

I don't know much about the system - whether it was OS9 or OSX - prior to the whole situation. What I know is that one day it crashed, rebooted the question mark, and the owner stuck in an OSX CD from one of her coworkers. After that, nothing happens - power goes on, black screen, and it usually shuts itself off again, but not always. I always hear the CRT get power, but there is no display. There is only rarely the startup chime.

This is a blue and white iMac, slot loading, IBM hard drive, and what looks like 192 megs of RAM, but it could be 96 megs just the same.

I've pulled all the IDE devices out and swapped RAM around with no change in anything. I poked the reset button on the board, which did nothing. I tested the PRAM battery, it's fine. I removed the PRAM battery for a day or so, stuck it back in, nothing has changed.

I may not be using the hardware terminology correctly - I'm a PC guy, and this is all alien. From underneath, I see two boards connected via a plug - the larger one has all the I/O on it as well as the PRAM battery (I assumed this was the logic board), and the other one is the power supply. I can test the power supply if I know what I'm testing for. There is a DB15 connector which I assumed was for testing or an external display, but there is no signal on it.

Is any of this helpful?
