using turn signals. Just because you signal all the time on the freeway doesn't automatically mean you're a good driver (and vice versa). I change lanes when it's safe and when I wish to do so, sometimes I signal and sometimes not. And sometimes people in front of me don't signal, but because I'M PAYING ATTENTION I can either guess they're about to do it or I figure it out as soon as they start and it's not a problem. Now on surface streets, on the other hand, I signal a lot because that's where the accidents are going to happen (and if they want to, the cops or insurance co. can check the car to see if you signaled).
In fact, I've noticed that some of the rudest, most oblivious drivers are obsessive signalers - part of their brain thinks "Well I'm telling everyone what I'm doing, therefore I can do whatever I want and not worry about them."
