Another one that drives me up the wall... Posted by Justin VanAbrahams [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Craigs List Traffic Rules, BMcP, Tue, 5 Dec 2006 18:24:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
One thing that I think should be on that list that isn't is how to handle yourself when you're trying to find an address, or an offramp, or a street...
It REALLY bugs me when you find people cruising along at half the speed limit because they don't know where they're going. Just as bad, people who who are doing the speed limit, but then suddenly slam on their brakes or cut across eight lanes of traffic to make their turn.
It's not like you only have one chance to get where you're going - if you pass it because you're going too fast or because you're in the wrong lane, it's not the end of the world. Yeah, you may have to go to the next signal to make a u-turn or drive an extra mile to the next offramp, but sheesh, your slowness is causing HELL for the hundreds of people behind you and your sudden change of direction puts everyone near you at risk.
If you don't know what you're looking for, stop and ask directions, or print out a map, or drive the road a couple times. If you miss your turn, just keep going and turn around at the next opportunity.
As for turn signals in general, I don't use them consistently and I rarely if ever look for them. For every person that is using theirs correctly, there's another two people who failed to use them or just left them on. In town, sure, it's useful to let people at intersections know what you're doing, but on the highway they are completely unreliable. I tend to watch peoples' hands and their road wheels to let me know what they're doing. Or, if I'm driving next to an SUV, I just wait for the pre-turn wallow to let me know that bastard is moving laterally. :D
