Car for girlfriend. part 2

Some of you may remember my posting last August (see link) about what car the G/F should consider as a non-Saaber. As of today, she is still driving the 96 Jetta GL after accumulating over $1000 in repairs since my last post. She has finally had enough of the VW and has put the Mazda 3s 2.3L hatch at the top of her list. Having raised her budget to $15k-16K, she has decided ot look for a near-new or new car for warranty purposes. She test drove a 2005 Acura base RSX M/T and the 2007 MAzda 3S M/T within 20 minutes of each other. She found the RSX to be bland and didn't like it...period... I think the RSX record speaks for itself as a great car but I argued that the Acura warranty was much better than the Mazda and it's simplicity made it reliable albeit the excellent mechanics. Alas, the RSX remains a distance 2nd. Her impression of the Mazda was that it handled well, shifted excellent, has better seats, had a telescopic wheel and that the general trim level+ handling + attractive price makes is a potential winnner. From what I've been reading, the Mazda 3 is a solid performer. However since my last post, her father picked up a brand new Corvette Z-06 which she had the luxury on unleashing. My opinion is that driving a 550+ HP 6-spd monster might curve one's ability to compare 4-bangers...
Any thoughts or recommendations welcome.. -Steve
