Generally KBB usually gives you the high end on prices, $7500-9000 for a 4 yr old Saturn Ion seems high. A quick check Edmunds for TMV (True Market Value) gives more reasonable results. Standard pricing for a 2003 Ion - trade in as low as $5500, max Private Party $7400.
$6000 for a "moderately" damaged car with deployed airbag seems way too much in comparison. I've driven several cars that had front end accidents that were repaired by the dealer. They never felt/drove the same, pulled to a side, had rattles and various problems that never could be solved.
If you just have to have it, offer them like $3K otherwise, I would walk/run away.
Check out http://www_Edmunds_com and some other sites for comparison pricing; I use KBB to find the max prices usually.
