even if you do them in 27-month chunks. At the end of 27 months you get out of one car and start a new lease. And so on, as presumably you still need a car. I appreciate the idea of not having to think about paying for repairs or maintenance, but the monthly nut is higher. I hear the financial argument about lower downstroke, preservation of capital, avoidance of depreciation, etc., but it just isn't my style.

I'd rather be at the point where I don't have payments and am just paying for maintenance. I figure on about $1,000 to $1,500 a year on either of my two 9000s, unless the planets align and they need tires, brakes and exhaust all in one year. Plus I DIY at least half of the work.

It's a philosophical difference. Even though I seem like a good lease candidate because I drive under 15K a year, I tend to run a car I like for a long time--150K miles or more. And even though I'm a gearhead, I don't care about having the latest stuff or the newest model, so I'm perfectly happy buying something used that I really like and taking care of it.

It just works for me. And money I don't spend on a car can go to other frivilous things, as my wife points out, like building a cabin at the lake. Which is why I don't have the toy car I want!
