This is where the "Cross Over" vehicles like the RX350 and like will gain. Saab's newest X vehicle could gain here too, if GM marketing moves quickly enough...
3. Forget about SAAB as a BMW/Audi competitor. Pitch SAAB as a VW competitor. Introduce a Golf/Rabbit sized car, with a turbocharged engine. SAAB does not have the kudos of BMW, such as rear wheel drive, which real driving enthusiasts must have. >> Saab and/or others do have smaller cars for European market place. Saab *finally* have a very capable 4WD without a huge penalty in cost, weight, or economy. Now if someone in GM Marketing will realize that...

With the current Exchange rate, it can't happen for cars built there and sold here. It doesn't pencil. However Saab has and GM has, and can continue to... build cars for US market and cars for Other (read non US) markets. That allows them to take advantage of exchange rates, costs of goods, and available labor pool/costs/abilities. The issue I believe is that they are sooo large that they may not be able to move fast enough. But I hope they can...
