My son goes to a private school and they used to do one of these type of fundraisers for the yearbook. They gave it up because the returns are based on amount sold. The more sold, the bigger the cut the school gets. Because it is a small school, they never sell enough to get to the level to make it worth their time.
They have always made and sold peanut butter eggs in the spring as their main fundraiser. The tuition is very inexpensive and the egg making is used as a supplement. They buy all of the ingredients and the parents make the eggs and the kids sell them. It is very profitable.
My answer is, if it is a large school so they can sell enough to get to the level where they keep a good amount of the take, then it is worth it. However, if I remember right, my sons school only got like 15 cents per dollar sold.
