My wife is the new fundraising chair for the small (750 students: pre-k - 8th) school our boys attend. In reviewing the various fundraising "events" in past years, she determined that some were pretty beneficial, some were no better than cowchips. Natch, she shared a few tidbits:
School 'photos (both indies & class) are fundraising events... gotta have 'em.
Gift Wrap (from Innesbruck) is the biggest single fundraising event all year... dollar for dollar. And the giftwrap, while a _little_ pricey, is simply the best Anniversary/Holiday/B'day giftwrap paper I've ever seen. It rivals the best paper from the best retailers. It is also "green" in that a very large portion of the giftwrap they sell is recycled paper.
Fall or Spring Fairs gross according to the number of volunteers working the event and how well the Fundraising chairs worked the Donation market.
ANY fundraising event for any school depends heavily on the willingness of parents to volunteer their time to benefit the fundraising sponsor: either the school or the school's PTO.
Just my $ 0.02 after listening to Shelley's comments and rants...
