Our upstairs main bathroom has been a nightmare since we moved into this house... We redid the whole thing but we've been putting off the ceiling. It had that popcorn texture garbage on it, and after enough steamy showers (we DO run the exhaust fan) it started to mildew up and peel off. So my father got the popcorn stuff down, sanded it and everything, and bought some primer/paint combo from Home Depot that the guy guaranteed would work. Well it didn't, and peeled off while he was applying it, especially where there is joint compound. I've been peeling the rest of the junk off today, but need some advice as to where to go next.
We were wondering if there was a one-piece laminate sort of thing we could put up there and never have to worry about again, but I think that would look pretty bad. I was just going to paint it, but need to know how to get the paint to stick to the ceiling. My uncle says that particulate soap-scum sticks to the ceiling after a couple showers and will prevent anything from adhering properly and mentioned some cleaning agent to get rid of it. I want to get a second opinion from the all-knowing Saabnet though. Thanks!
