I think it works, but my insurance is cheap ($1,250 for 3 cars with one under 25 driver), the cars are paid for, and 40-50% of the miles on my 9K are business-related or directly billable.

What I find as a wild card or wrinkle are the periodic biggies like tires, especially when you have to cover multiple cars in a year. You can average it out, but it still comes out of your budget in a large chunk. I get to buy 3 sets of tires this year, for example. Then as cars age there are the once or twice in the life expenses, like a fuel pump.

The thing to do is add it all up over 3-4 years and work an average. Or just look at it as how your cash flow changes if you take the package and do something else. I think this stuff can be over-analyzed.
