this was the first auction I pulled up with a bunch of bids.
t..r would have been the winning bidder at $72 (bid $85) had they placed the $85 bid at the last second. Instead, t..r bid $85 roughly 24 hours in advance. This influenced (newbie) I..i to up their bid (yet again) to $101 putting them on top. But because I..i didn't bid last second, t..r ups their bid to $100, and since it's not worth more than that to them, gives up.
Had t..r placed that $85 (or $100 as they should have) bid at the last second, they would have won it for $72.
Had I..i placed the $101 bid at the last second, they would have won it for $86.
Instead they got in a silly bidding war + paid more.
2 clear cases in 1 auction (the first I looked at for an example), of overpaying by not sniping.
