Just bought the car and the p.owner only had one key. Can't bring the title with me because it takes our state at least 8 weeks to process a transfer (my guess is our state hasn't heard about computers yet, but that is an entirely separate matter). The parts guy at the dealership quoted me $215 for the key alone. Programming is in addition to that. Fortunately, I found an indy with a tech II that I will use to program the keys for me.
I understand that the car were designed to use the transponder in the key. That can't be undone. What I don't get is why the dealer makes it so difficult to simply buy a replacement key. I will be driving the car to their place, can bring the key that I have and a copy of the title transfer documents, and will pay with an easily traceable credit card (so they can come and get me if I really am a car thief).
