They depreciate even faster than cars, and the "name brand" models from manufacturers like Dell can be difficult or impossible to service due to proprietary designs.
From what I've seen many people want to treat a personal computer like it's a refrigerator, they want to buy it and use it for 10, 15, 20 years or more. Sorry, but it just doesn't work that way. (Well, I do still have a Commodore 64, but don't expect it to do anything particularly useful at this point.)
A friend of mine runs a computer shop. I really have to laugh every time I'm over there and see some poor sod bringing in an 8-year-old computer that was cheap, underpowered crap when it was new, with the complaint that "it's slow." It's like complaining that their Yugo bogs down and overheats going up hills. The mind just boggles.
