Volt's electric-only range is 40 miles. So anyone with more than 40 mile commute (which is a lot of folks) will fully benefit. If the car can be recharged at work - then it is about 80 electric-only miles per day.
200 work days per year? Where does this one come from? Everybody I know works 250+ days per year.
250*80 = 20k miles just commuting to work. In 25 mpg Saab it is 800 gallong per year, or $3200. Over 10 years this is $32k in fuel costs. EPA claims driving on electricity is equivalent to 100 mpg gasoline (i.e. 4x lower cost than 25mpg saab), so out of this $32k the savings would be 75%, or $24k over 10 years of car lifetime. So the Volt more than pays for itself at $4/gal gas already.
I still think the 50mpg Prius is a better way to go, but I would pick Volt over a Saab if I had to pick between the latter two.
