So not many people will expect it to be perfect. You don't say what model, but unless it's a 9K Aero or a convertible it's probably not going to be worth more than about $2500 or so. And maybe not even $1500.
A smoker's car is a deal breaker for any shoppers who don't smoke. The odor is in all the fabric and leather. And won't come out.
Clean it up really well inside and out with a wash, wax, vacuumed interior and Armor All on the dash. Maybe gap the plugs to avoid a misfire on the test drive or put in new ones, shine up the tires. Consider cleaning the engine compartment. If it needs something like brakes and you can DIY it's worth doing them. But to pay for it...no. You won't get the money back on the sale.
Don't sweat the dent. It's 16 years old... no one is buying it as a collector car. It's probably gonna be a daily driver for some kid.
Just my 2 cents.
