Sounds like everything you've suggested is right on the money. I used to have pretty good luck getting the smoke smell out of cars. You have to clean absolutely EVERY surface. I used Windex for all of it--works well. If it has cloth seats and you have a stout wet/vac there's a technique I used that'll make the seats look and smell like new. Put some Tide and a dab of ammonia in a bucket of water. Take a car wash mitt and scrub it good--don't be afraid to get it wet. You can do the carpet too. Then vacuum the heck out of it and get as much water out as you can. Park it outside with the windows down on a nice sunny, warm day or in a heated garage. It could take two or three days--do not roll the windows up until it's thoroughly dry. Works wonders. The nicer you make it, the faster it'll sell and the more you'll get.
