Thanks - I get the picture. My plan is to look for a Maryland or Virginia/DC area vehicle. I don't expect to drive it the same 19 years I drove the Aero!

There are a lot of Saabs out there from temperate places. But since I'm not any kind of wrench turner (I rewired my trunk harness and have changed out a number of DICs on Saabs in my day...), I'm afraid the local lack of much reliable Saab repair places is the game-changer for me. We'll keep our other 2 Saab 9-5 wagons on the road for as long as possible, but for me, the future pretty much has to include something I can get fixed without too much drama.

F'rinstance, a couple of years ago, my Aero needed something replaced in the front end - I don't remember what, but whatever it was, it was rusted out pretty badly. My local Saab "whisperer" had the sub chassis on the floor of his service bay for maybe a week as he tried - and succeeded - to get the thing disassembled. I assume he was just hitting it with some kind of rust dissolver and some brute force, maybe once or twice a day. No one around here would do that kind of repair anymore without charging an arm and a leg. He also had as I mentioned, a "fleet" of donor Saabs sitting in his lot, from some old 96 models to NG 9-5s. I think all of that went to the crusher when he retired and sold the business.
