It amazes me how "the suits" can miss vehicles traits that are either hideous (aztec) obvious (hatchbacks). The Auto press has been all over the "return of the hatchback", yet the info we are getting seems to indicate that the hatch at Saab is dead. Note the Lexus cross vehicle, the Mercedes hatch and a bunch of other hatches being sold and developed.
It seems silly that Saab will not confirm or deny the demise. Are they looking to cause intrigue on the issue and a pleasant suprise or are they trying to hide that the hatch is dead. I woulkd rather they just come out with it as in either event, I feel like I am being jerked around... in that if they kill off the hatch it will affect my opinion of Saab, and if they are not killing, why put the press and the affecianadoes through the doubt cycle.
I don;t have a great deal of confidence in GM at the moment. It seems they are on a different track than the rest of the industry. The faceted look of many of their new ideas is hideous to me, but it obviously hits the right buttons with many folks so I may just have to learn to live with it.
The obvious copying of styles that Saturn has pulled off is also hitting one of my buttons. If I were GM, I would make it a point to forbid the mitrroring of identies across brands within the realm. The uniqueness of Saabs is what has kept the car brand alive over the last 50 years. Diluting that in anyway removes form its desire.
