After driving on European highways for 5 weeks last spring, I really learned what real driving is. Drivers are so much more attentive there, and there are so many great unwritten rules. One of those rules is the "I'm coming up on your ass at high speed, please pull over to the right lane to let me by" as indicated by flicking the high beams. I don't think it is ever considered rude there. Several drivers did it to me, usually from 200 m behind me, and I graciously let them by. And when I came upon cars going slower than me, I offered them the same signals, and it worked at least 3/4 of the time. Their highways flow so much better than ours do in North America. We could learn a lot from them.
So many drivers here are ignornant to simple rules. I think people here view it as a right to drive where ever they want on the road, and so many people believe that since they are going the speed limit, no one should be able to get by them, as they are breaking the law anyway.
