by that I mean, the money that you have in negative equity comes from somewhere and usually that is out of your pocket either in the form of a lump sum or in the lease payment. I've traded in cars that had negative equity (by as much as $6000) for a lease and I absorbed that money in a higher lease payment that usual. The best cars to help absorb the negative equity are cars that have rebates/incentives and have good lease rates (a hard combination to find). Do some research on edmunds.com for vehicles/companies that have rebates. Keep in mind that the more negative equity you need to absorb, the higher the price of the leased car has to be. The dealer can only lease/borrow money for a certain percentage over what the car is worth.
