i was kind of looking at this as re-financing some bad debt. assume that i have 6,000 in negative equity - i see my options as these:
1. trade the car in for another, but cheaper new car or a used car. i'd have to get a kia to make the $ work out cheaper and at that i'd be grossly overpaying. not an option.
2. sell the car to a private party and make the bank whole out of my own pocket. ouch ! realistically, not much of an option.
3. trade car in for a lease. amortize the negative equity over 36 months, pay less each month. accept all the downside of a lease, but get out from under this thing !
what do you think ? i'm not going to default on my loan. i make enough to make the payments, but i have little margin for anything else.
