When you can't be there with her give her a figurative hug. My experience is that dying people are often treated as if they were already dead. They are avoided by doctors, friends and family. Perhaps because people don't know what to say, perhaps because they are afraid of death themselves.
So I think the greatest gift you can give is a full measure of the love that you feel for her, and to listen to her life stories, and whatever else she would like to share. There is a lot of experience for her to share, and family history to be remembered.
Agree with others to study death and dying. Difficult for all of us, but something we will all experience.
