Bitter taste after the convention..... Posted by DougM [Email] (#211) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DougM) on Sun, 4 Aug 2002 21:55:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I tried to be nice by posting earlier what a great time I had at the convention, and also trying to get my point across on how a MAJOR screw up was made concerning the "people's choice" award that was advertised in the program guide. Somehow the Saabgods deleted it before I was able to post it. So much for trying to be civil.
Why was the award not voted on by the Saab owners present? Because one or more of the committee forgot to distribute ballots? Why did I spend 1200 estimated hours, $4000, and 6 months restoring a Saab 99 from the ground up(with no help) to be sent away with a $5 wax kit for coming in 3rd in the 99 concourse?
I learned how the concourse was judged, and I accepted that. Most feedback I received from the convention goers was that I had the most unique Saab there. Viggen blue always attracts a crowd when not on a real Viggen, not to mention all the chrome work and polished and painted doo-dads in the engine bay.
I heard the commitee members gloating for 30 minutes on the podium about what a great job they did on the coveted SPG give-away. When looking closely the car was not as perfect as was advertised considering they spent 9 months and had thousands of hours of donated help time. The engine bay paint was far from lacking as far as touting it as a ground up restoration. What about those plastic tie straps holding the SPG panels to the door bottoms, or that primer over spray in the door jambs?
Was any gloating done on the vintage Saab restoration I did by myself in half the man hours? Was I rewarded justly for the work I did in the time I did it? Were my peers able to vote on the Saabs they found most appealing to them? Am I peeved? You bet I am.
I tried to vent nicely earlier, but my post message disapeared before I could finish.
Will I do another convention? Why? Once bitten twice shy.
And this bitterness will not leave me for awhile.
I have vented.
