Get the basics. The ones he lists are fine. If you get Craftsman you'll love the free replacement when you break a ratchet drive or wreck a screwdriver. I've had some of mine for 25 years, from when I twisted wrenches for income.
Don't worry about power tools yet.
Get a good ball peen hammer.
Set of adjustable wrenches (4, 6 8 and 10 inch)
A pair of Vise Grips (get the brand name)
A long (18" to 24") flat bladed screwdriver.
1 Fine and 1 medium flat file
An 18" section of 1" iron pipe to use as a "cheater"
When you have some extra cash, get some 19mm-25mm sockets with a 1/2" drive and a breaker bar. And a 3/8 to 1/2 adapter so you can use your 3/8 ratchets once you bust a large nut loose.
A torque wrench is nice, but not critical for 90% of the work you'll do. Until you spring for one, you can rent one from a lot of parts stores if you are doing a torque-critical job.
Have fun!
