on blocks for past two yrs, while my Saab 9^5 gets the driveway treatment.
The SHO is my repair project, I cooked the engine and burnt the valves on the two inner cylinders, all by being cheap and never changing the oem thermostat. Engine is torn apart, will be a challenge to get all the pieces back together.
I have about 130k miles on the car, and replaced so much of it that I am reluctant to throw it away. The car was fun to drive, but never great on reliability. The handling surprised me, better than expected for a Taurus with stiffer sway bars and better tires, also not bad on gas for such a heavy beast.
That engine was great, and had the same design, timing belt and then chain to drive second camshaft, which Stephen is critical of in the VW post. Smooth engine, despite the lack of hydraulic valve lifters. How many miles did you get out of your clutch ? My original lasted 82 K.
My SHO is a 1991, my other car at the time a Saab 1986 9000T.
