If you want capable, I'd get a Liberty. Torquey V6, low range even with full-time 4wd, and reasonably comfortable.
The MDX is nice, but its low range is only for temporary use - you are not supposed to use it for extended periods. And they have developed a habit of eating transmissions.
If you want something more luxurious than a Liberty, I'd suggest (here come the flames!) a Bravada. Its inline 6 is as smooth as a BMW's, has full time AWD with low range (Smartrac), loaded with luxury features, has a 5 year warranty, excellent fuel economy, and, in my opinion, the best styling of all of its siblings. The only thing you'll be interested in doing is immediately changing the rubber to something more agressive. But then, save the new (old) tires for selling it....
