As I read your question you are searching for a small SUV with low range 4WD, 6cyl engine, and a comfortable interior.
Before I bought my 9-5 I drove a Chevy S-10 Blazer for 8 years. Since mine had an upscale interior it fit all of your requirements stated above, achieved 25MPG on the E-way (yes I was trying for high mileage), and was trouble-free for 130,000+ miles. City mileage sucked, probably only 14MPG or so. In low range I could drive through snow deeper than bumper height without any problem.
GM is still making them and selling them cheap since the bigger Trailblazer family of vehicles came out.
