As with all Saabs, make sure that any that you're looking at have been well maintained. The only bad one we've had was really neglected, so, it was a challenge to keep up. On '93 and newer 9000s, fuel pumps are expensive and seem to fail around 140k. DI cassettes, like most Saabs, are common failure points. They run about $380 and take about 10 minutes to change. Other than that, the 9000s that we've owned have been VERY nice to drive and quite bullet-proof. The 9000 Aero is oustanding!
The engines are nearly identical, so, maintenance costs are extremely similar. The suspension and chassis is very robust and the 9000 seems to have a more stable, planted feel than the NG900. The 9000, I found, felt very, very similar to a 5-series BMW - firmer than a 7-series, handled better and felt more crisp than an Audi A6. They're also quite roomy.
The only really low point about the 9000 is the traction control system. '93 and older cars equipped with traction control were more of an experiment than something that was really ready for 'prime time.' You may wish to look for a '96 or newer 9000. I think that those had pretty much all of the bugs worked out.
Of course, look carefully in the forums here for the common trouble spots of any of the Saabs that you may be considering.
