Flickering lights and mis-shifts 2001 Ford Focus Posted by Caarma [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
So I have been asked about issues with a Focus that has been in the shop numerous times...
- flickering headlights and interior lights - dealer replaced alternator (probably not necessary but at 50,000 miles, would need one eventually)
- flickering lights and acceleration surging while applying gas pedal - rettached certain groundwires
- flickering lights and acceleration surging - changed engine computer
- flickering lights and surging are back
After each repair the issues went away for a week, then returned.
I finally got a chance to drive it and noticed flickering at idle, while in Drive, while in Park. I have a feeling it's the torque converter on the automatic transmission since it seems to mis-shift, (jerks while shifting), but that wouldn't explain the flickering lights. ATF is full too.
I'm going to take it to the dealer for her. Any ideas as to what it could be?
Thanks in advance,
Atul
