Back in 2001 I was given a brand new RX300 as a company car. For what it was, and with little competition back then [luxury crossover], it was a nice vehicle. The 3.0 litre engine was completely overwhelmed by the weight of the vehicle. The acceleration can only be described as miserable. My RX330 with the 3.3 litre is definitely quicker and more responsive, but it wasn't until the 2007 model year's 3.5 litre that the RX finally has "ooomph."
In regard to the ride of either of them, my 330 doesn't "bounce" around. It's very stable and drives/rides like a sedan. Handling around corners ... yep ... it's an SUV. I don't recall the 300 being bouncy but it could've been. All in all, the 300 and the 330 are quite different beasts.
Lexus should hit the nail on the head with the next version RX350 due out in less than one year. It will also have an extended version for third row seating (why I don't know, get a GX or LX if you need that).
