Hey there Freddy,

I had my 1993 Aero ECU modified to about 285 hp (at the crank) by SQR/Engstrom as well. A week before I had the car tuned, I had the head rebuilt by a local shop and put a whole new head gasket set on when putting the head back on the car. I drove the car for about 6 months with no problems (other then the clutch slipping from time to time because of the increased horse power). In about the 7 month, the 6.5 month old head gasket went. When this happened, I was not happy. Thinking the worst, I thought that I also did head damage as well. Well, after pulling off the head (again... ya ya... I know.... no head shaking please) and getting it pressure tested, all was well. I just got myself a new gasket set and slapped my head back on. But this time, I took out the factory head bolts and replaced them with ARP head studs. It is my opinion that the head gasket went because the increased power losen the factory head bolts slightly and the head moved away from the block. Hence the new head studs to hold that baby (i.e. the head) on tighter.

As for your problem Freddy, try re-torquing the head bolts to factory specs. This may help. Also, as an additional thought, once I had my head back on my 1993 Aero, my turbo needle only goes slightly into the red. I've looked for vacum leaks as well as tested the wastegate pressure regulator for leaks. All seems well. I haven't test it yet, but I think all that hard driving and increased p.s.i. level in the intake manifold made my factory intercooler leak. I think this may be a problem for you as well Freddy.

That is my 2 cents. Hope it helps. Happy Saabing man!
