Sounds extremely weird Posted by AdamB [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Engine (bearing) failures with routine hi-speed driving, Colin, Sat, 18 Feb 2006 09:50:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Those speeds are pretty normal in most of Europe and I've never heard of any issues like this on the engines used in the 9000. Many American and Canadian saabers also often drive around 100 MPH without engine problems.
Our 9000 (280k kms) often gets way above 100 MPH (has hit 160 MPH a couple of times) and has never had any engine problems. It's even got an ECU upgrade, so has had a harder life than a standard engine. I use Mobil 1 5W-50 because 0W-40 is just a tad too thin for my taste with the driving I do and I live in Scandinavia. So in a hot climate like Thailand I'd think it's way too thin.
I'm certain this is a maintenance and oil issue rather than problem with the engines themselves. Your experience also points in the direction of mechanic error when fixing your car. Bearing failure twice in 150,000 kms is crazy.
The B235 has a sludge problem that's unrelated.
