it depends on your goals Posted by jak [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: external wastegate?, julianvaviggen, Fri, 24 Mar 2006 08:48:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I think like GM said if you want to make over 350 BHP an external would probably be the way to go basically you can make more power with a smaller turbo so you get spool up from a smaller rotating assy & can flow more exhaust around the turbine at higher RPM spreading the pwer curve
I think allong with more acurate turbine speed controll you can actually flow more exhaust around the turbine & get rid if more heat so say if the car pings & the ECU has to dump boost it can also get rid of allot more heat quickly & recover more quickly
so there are several reasons they are used in higher power aplications
but you can get up to & over 400BHP with an internal WG & using an internal WG can save you a few hundred dollars in parts & fabricaton time
I opted to use an external WG on my car for its next incarnation :-)
I cant wait till you come back down for the upgrades :-)you were an awesome guest last time we realy enjoyed having you over, we can get 400 BHP from your car no problem if thats what you want & ofcourse we will try to do it as fugaly as possible without compromising integrity
Im in florida rite now at carl bridges house to do some touch up tuning on his car (the 350WHP viggen) & to go to a tampa area saab club meeting tomarrow please feel free to call or email any time
Ill be back home next week on tuesday
take care
