I think that given the simplicity of the APC wiring, you might as well go ahead and stick it underhood. I'm sure repinning is possible, but if I recall correctly the old-style connector is not the same Amp Jr. connector as the later cars, so you'll actually be splicing wiring unless you wanna fork over $2/ea and recrimp the Amp connectors.
APC needs what - power, ground, tach signal, ignition signal, input from the transducer, output to the solenoid, and the knock sensor wire - right? That's only seven wires plus the knock sensor "wire." That's not bad at all, and it's all in the engine bay already, except for the wiring to the transducer.
When I retrofitted APC to my 5-door it was easy to separate out the necesary wiring from an '88 SPG, and easy to put back in. I'd personally go that route. If you need, I am pretty sure I have a spare APC connector w/ pigtail I saved from a 1990 900T - I can get a picture of it and show you what you're getting involved in...
