DC Beltway Race last night; state trooper flipped his cruiser

Heard this on the news last night:
3 sport bikes riding closely together at high speed in traffic were spotted by the cops at about 9 pm last night in Virginia on 495 (Capital Beltway) Traffic is still very present on the Beltway well past 9 pm everyday.
The cops engaged in a chase, and an officer speeding to set up a road block on an off ramp lost control of his Crown Vic, losing it into the woods and rolling it. He is in critical condition at a local hospital.
The bikers were clocked at over 135 mph, and got away. They are probably off somewhere thinking they are total bad asses, with no idea that someone might die from this.
I admit I like to go fast, but 135 mph in traffic on the Beltway? Give me a break. On a trip back from western Virginia this past weekend, several sport bikers came up really fast into heavily packed traffic and drove like complete a**holes, making it impossible for anyone to change lanes, etc. I am really getting tired of crotch rockets. I know they are fast, but when suck recklessness becomes commonplace for the riders, something's gotta give.
