help, overly complicated timing issues

ok, today i picked up a pressure regulating valve to use inline with the msd btm. i set the regulator for 14 psi. initial timing is set to 20 btdc, just like before. question is, now that i have the regulator inline, it will allow increasing the retard with the btm to allow higher boost pressures without over retarding at high boost. but, doesn't this sacrifice the power up to 14 psi (regulator setting)? it seems i am now at the point where i have so many variables (btm, regulator, boost, ambient temp, initial timing, etc.) that there are quickly becoming a large number of possible settings. i read through jukos (?) graphs and saw a couple possibilities, but i'm still overwhelmed. any guidance on ideal settings? meaning, "at 'x' psi boost , timing should be at 'x' btdc", etc, initial timing at 'x', etc. i realize this is a tall order, but just looking for a direction for the best possible settings. i have increased my possibilities for power output, but i have also complicated things. do i need to get a hand pump w/gauge, a gauge for the down side of the regulator? will i actually need to do continuous changing to the regulator? help. thanks.
