I got the same impression when I drove a a friend's S4...then I drove it after my friend had chipped it to over 330hp...now THAT was fast.
Even so, the Saab turbo is a much better rush of power (third gear is addictive), better seats (love the Viggen stamping in the leather), 30MPG on the highway, and I LOVE the looks of Lightning Blue in the 5 door hatch. I also prefer the Saab's driving position (much more upright), and ever since I complained about some difficult shifting, those issues seem to have disappeared! The transmission now feels much better...maybe it's because I hadn't driven it in a while.
And let's face it, there are a lot of S4s on the road today...there aren't that many Viggens...I like the fact that I drive something no one else has.
The only downside is the spoiler, which is easy to scrape, and the occasional rattle from the rear seatback.
