You are right on...we ARE talking about different beasts. Most of the threads about turbocharging NA engines lately have been about doing what I and others like Beaudreau have done...bolting a turbo onto a 10:1 NA engine. It sounds like you go one level further, changing pistons, lowering compression, etc. and ending up with a FPT. That is also a great project...
I just think you should give more detail when you say things like "serious problems". For the benefit of everyone who has and will be bolting turbos to NA SAAB motors, any specifics about the "engine problems down the road" would be greatly appreciated. I only have 2,500 miles on my LPT car. Others have many more miles on theirs. Maybe the problems your friends experienced were caused/related to their use of NA cams. Maybe not. Maybe the problems only occur at FPT-like boost levels, in which case I may never experience them. Please give us more to go on!
Thanks,
Eric H.
