which turbo should I upgrade too?

I understand the basics of how a turbo functions but admit I know nothing about the different sizing. I find my stock turbo spools up nice and quick but cant hold boost at high rpm. What would be a good choice for an upgrade? I want it to be a direct bolt on but no crazy lag. I can live with a little lag if it will hold the boost up to red line. I think the car has a garrett t25 in it right now and I have been told that the reason it loses boost at high rpm is because it creates way too much heat at those speeds. The abbott mitsubishi turbo upgrade looks great but is way too expensive. Just a thought, what if I got a turbo and manifold from a newer, mitsubishi equiped 9.3 ? Oh yeah, do I need a new ecu if I change my turbo?
Thanks
