I have added a turbo to my '86, as I have documented on this board previously. It is very different from my tweaked '85 900T, but I tend to drive my LPT 'S' more often because it has instant low end response and gets better gas mileage. While it is fun to drive anywhere, it's at its best around town.
The other factor, besides your driving style/needs, is your mechanical skillability and/or the depth of your pockets. If you get a good deal on a turbo parts car, and can do most or all of the work yourself, it would probably make sense to turbocharge your 'S'. (I am assuming your 'S' is in very good condition otherwise.)
If you take on the project, good luck! I will be happy to answer any questions you might have along the way.
