I dont know if the ones that GM sells or the copy that Saabsavior made actually reduce throws or if they are just shorter. Mine is just shorter, but that does make it more comfortable and you do have a reduced throw since it doesnt have to move as far.
You have to dissasemble the shifter and cut from the bottom the desired amount. I used a lathe for precision and also to make sure the shaft was totally straight. You'll then have to drill out the same amount from the inside so that the reverse lockout pin will be able to fit in properly. You'll then have to re-drill the hole on the side for the holding pin. The cutting and drilling was most easily accomplished with a lathe. You could probably do it without it though. If you dissasemble the shifter and study it, it will make sense. Good luck.
