The VRG in the Passat isn't THAT fast anyways. It's nothing to sneeze at but you should have smoked him easy without any modifications.
Let's see.
Bad things going for him:
He has a naturally aspirated engine at 204hp - (no low end turbo kick)
AWD on the highway - He needs to overcome the added drag + weight of it.
The big question is; is his car modified? I must be out of the loop as I didn't know they had a 6 speed for the Golf.
Tell me more please,
