Maintenance on early 928's can be worse than hellacious... check out how much stuff really costs for them before you decide - if I wanted cheap bang per buck from a Porsche, there is nothing better than a 944 Turbo. I like the Cosworth idea myself, but I know they are not flawlessly reliable, and they can be a bit crude, but they sure are FAST! I know you mentioned 'reliable' but how about a Lancia Thema Turbo? A friend of mine had a 1991 for quite a few years, and nothing that really mattered ever went wrong with it. If you can tame the torque steer, a Thema will run with a Cossie, and be a whole lot different. The Lancia should be so cheap that you could pick up a second parts car and still have a lot of change...
