That seems a litle odd to me as well, but a 1/2 degree ain't much...

I have never looked at the SDF's for the 900 front SLA suspension. I have two guesses, but that is all they are. I would have to play with the geometry first hand to really know why the engineer designed it the way he did.

One guess is to maintain understeer. One way of increasing the understeer would be to reduce the grip up front, adding positive camber would do this on most SLAs. Perhaps when fully ladden the understeer coeficient was not high enough to keep the engineer sleeping well at night. Does 900 have a rear sway bar?

The other reason could be that the suspension was designed with a ton of camber gain, to maintain acceptable camber angles in ride events some positive camber was dialed in at curb. I doubt this one, but it has been done like that before. Are the arms very splayed? (looking in the front or rear view are the upper and lower arms very non-parrallel? When looking at this be sure to look at the line that connects bushing to ball joint center, not at the arm.) If the arms are very splayed it would be indicative of high camber gain. Also if the upper arm is way shorter than the lower the camber gain would be non-linear and increasing as you went into jounce.

Unfortunately I know that is not a very satisfactory answer. I honestly do not know why the front suspension has the positive camber spec. I can only formulate educated guesses. If it is something that you absolutely must know I can call a friend on the other side of the big lake...

I can only tell you _for sure_ why things are the way they are on the suspensions I have designed. On anything else it is just an educated guess. I have not worked on any Saabs that are currently released, but have spoken with those who have on the 9000 and 9-5 rear. (promted by the fact that the 9000 feels better to me.) I am also consulting on the next gen 9-5 front.
