My 87 spg has around 200k on original turbo. I've rebuilt 3 so far and this will be my fourth. It smoked once several months ago so I figured I'd get the kit and rebuild while it still boosts fine. A buzzing kind of whistle is normal but a howling sound isn't. I speculate that some of howling noise is due to the blades coming too close to the housings, or even rubbing metal to metal. I don't know that for sure though. I plan on getting a ball bearing turbo sometime soon after getting a job this May. But I can always rebuild this original one and use it on the other spg I'm buying.
