yeah, i wish i had some scanned pictures of our fuel graphs from our dyno runs. wide band o2 sensor shows quite a bit. it seems that when boost is turned up past stock, lean out occurs in the upper rpm range. course it makes sense with the closed loop fuel map at wot. larger injectors and rrfpr help a little bit but rob power in lower rpm at wot due to rich condition. only way to reap full benefit (imho) is programmable ecu. water prevents predet at higher rpm due to lean out, but does nothing to reduce overfueling at lower rpm. however, as you stated, the 50% alcohol mixture may offer a little to help lean out on top.
i've got tec's stage 1 turbo, not real sure on turbine size, etc. but i run between 15-20 psi normally. with cams and ported head, was leaning out on top quite a bit. 30# injectors and rrfpr helped a lot, but complicated things on the bottom end. also found that msd btm was invaluable in getting a smooth transition of boost power. instead of complete dump of timing retard with stock unit, msd offers linear retard with rising boost. less of a 'jerky' power transition (easier on the tranny?). but, this further reenforced my desire to control all variables of the timing and fuel curves. presently looking into the wolf 3d, 4.0 system, but also just came across the autronic smc system (as pointed out by chrisx). need to gather more info on the autronic, but i think it is the only real way to go for efficient power. once the ideal fueling curve is established, then i can add water and advance timing further for more power. ahh the toys never stop...
