The ECU is a custom unit. It is Abbott stage 4 ecu and works within normal limits for this unit boost pressure. It actually is working below it's max if you can believe that. The BCP is also located on the front of the engine bay like the stock unit like in your 95 and 97. The main reason why I have been asking this question is because I have emailed Ed Abbott and he claims that this is a common failure and can be easily fixed by changing the BCP with their boost controller. The only potential problems that I can see with this application is 1) Having 24-22psi in first gear 2) the potential damage the tranny may sustain form the increase in boost in the lower gears and 3) Possible engine trouble with over boost possible hitting 24+psi. I have had the unit as high as 30psi but have lowered it due to my fears of killing the engine.
I think I'll be adding the Abbott unit but I really wanted to see if anyone had already changed their BCP with the Abbott unit and how it worked. I will be ordering or driving to Abbott America in the next couple of days. Hopefully if I drive their Eric at Viking Automotive can help with the installation so we can help monitor the boost pressures. I may have a my answers answered by myself as soon as tommorrow or as late as two to three weeks depending on where I get my new boost controller. I only wish that I could have some type of use for the old hallman unit that is just taking up room in my tool box. I keep you guys posted on the results.
I also plan on having the car dynoed sometime in the next couple of weeks and it should be fun to see where I'm at. Also thanks for your advice and help with this problem. I really appreciated you insite.
